Can I Take Aspirin with Ashwagandha?

Headache on your first day on the slopes?

We’ve all been there before – sitting on the chairlift with a throbbing headache at the start of your vacation.

Headaches are a common symptom of Altitude Sickness, which is the body’s way of telling us that it’s trying to adapt to the lower levels of oxygen at high altitude.

What do we reach for once we feel that headache? Aspirin, usually.

Ditch the pills

There are several medications that are proven to help reduce symptoms of Altitude Sickness, but the most commonly used one is aspirin.  You can give aspirin a try to help with symptoms, but the only cure for altitude sickness is going to a lower altitude.  If that’s not possible, get plenty of rest and drink lots of water.  Another great option is to check out your local oxygen bar for some temporary relief.

Can you take aspirin and ashwagandha together?

What if you’re also taking a supplement with ashwagandha, an herb that may help improve athletic performance and decrease inflammation? Can you take aspirin and ashwagandha together?

According to rxlist.com, ashwagandha has no known serious reactions with any drugs, including aspirin.

While there is currently not enough published research to confirm or refute this finding, one study found that ashwagandha may have a blood thinning effect. Since aspirin is a blood thinner, it’s possible that ashwagandha could increase this effect.

While it’s likely that most individuals won’t have any issues with taking both aspirin and ashwagandha together, it could be worth talking to your doctor about just in case – especially if you’re on blood thinners or have a bleeding or blood clotting disorder.

Ashwagandha

Summary

Ashwagandha may help you keep up with your buddies on the slope and plenty of rest and hydration will help keep the altitude headaches away.
